Abstract : The regulatory controls for testing military materiel under adverse environmental conditions of the world deserts are delineated. The desert environment is described and specific characteristics of the major world deserts delineated. Adverse effects of the desert environment on military equipment and materials are discussed. The U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground is discussed in terms of its facilities and capabilities for evaluating the suitability of military material for operations in analogous areas of the deserts of the world. Desert testing methodology for specific types of Army material is discussed in terms of development and execution of test plans.
