Abstract : A computer-based ultrasonic pulse-echo test system that encompasses three separate ranges of test frequencies is described in this report. Three super-imposed pulse-echo traces are produced, which are displayed in different colors. The system therefore yields amplitude vs time as well as amplitude vs frequency information. Illustrative applications of the test system are discussed, which include determining transducer frequency response, transducer coupling conditions, ultrasonic beam diffraction, defect test sensitivity, microstructure of materials, and dispersion.
