Abstract : This thesis examines the concept of a top-down approach to providing natural language interface and more simple and flexible model manipulation for users of decision support systems, through the use of a model statement language/model statement analyzer (MSL/MSA). Patterned after problem statement language/problem statement analyzer (PSL/PSA), the MSL/MSA is a software tool which interprets user input and assists the user through iterative and interactive heuristic problem-solving searches through levels and categories of models, functions, and equations.
