Abstract : A partial adaptive array is a more feasible alternative to the fully adaptive array when the number of array elements becomes very large. Three possible methods of implementing partial nulling are to place the adaptive controls at (1) selected elements in the aperture, (2) the subarray outputs, or (3) the feed of a space fed array. Of these choices, the first produces much less distortion to the antenna's far field pattern than the other two. This report analyzes the distortions due to nulling with limited degrees of freedom.
