Abstract : Novel uses of pulsed current in the electrodeposition of alloys were investigated. The study resulted in the demonstration of the feasibility of depositing alternate layers of the same phase or different phases of controlled chemical compositions and thicknesses. The alternate-layer structure resulted in better strength properties in some cases. An orders-of-magnitude increase in the ductility in some layered alloys was discovered. Pulse plating also reduced uncontrolled compositional variations which cause the banded structure.
