Abstract : For certain assumptions, an analysis of multiple MAD (Magnetic Anomaly Detection) signals results in a reasonable estimate for the localization of a target relative to the MAD platform. This is achieved by using selective approximations to linearize an initially nonlinear problem. The simulation ignores noise and requires an estimate of the magnitude of the target magnetic moment components. Results indicate that the best localization estimates are achieved when the platform is on cardinal headings, and when the targets moment has a strong vertical component. (Author)
