Abstract : The report describes the development of a Holloman High Speed Test Track artificial rainfield with a drop mass median diameter of approximately 2.7 millimeters and an accumulated rain rate of 20-30 inches per hour. An overview of the physical layout, test set-up, and test instrumentation is given. Drop number distributions over eight size categories from .3 to 5.1 millimeters are presented, as well as equivalent and accumulated rain rate, liquid water content, and mass median diameter data. Also included are statistics for estimation of the number and size of drops encountered by a test item passing through the rainfield. (Author)
