Abstract : This document is Part I of a two-part document series on emergency warning systems. An overview is given for typical warning system methods. Since the majority of warning systems use sirens, a major portion of this document deals with sirens and their technical specifications. Encoder and decoders used to control such systems are discussed, along with tone alert radios, DIDS, and factors concerning sound attenuation. (Author)
