Abstract : This thesis consists of two reports on Venezuela's petroleum sector. The first report, Analysis of the Linkage Effects of Venezuela's Petroleum Sector, analyzes the main linkage effects of petroleum, using Professor W.W. Rostow's 'Take Off' theory of economic growth as the analytical framework. The main linkage effects have their greatest impact in the public sector, industry, agriculture, foreign exchange, and human resources. The second report, Political Risk Analysis of Venezuela's Petroleum Sector, has a general environmental risk analysis of Venezuela, followed by an annex which more specifically addresses the risks and opportunities of Venezuela's petroleum sector from the point of view of a ficticious US company that is consisting to enter the Venezuelan market.
