Abstract : A detector system consisting of an n-type, high-purity germanium detector in a bismuth germanate anticompton shield has been developed for flight on a space shuttle mission. The BGO shield consists of six trapezoidal segments, each one being 14.6 cm long by 2.74 cm thick, mounted in a hexagonal shape about the axis of the germanium detector can. (Author)
