Abstract : A theoretical and experimental study of the reaction of carbon-black agglomerates, which are formed during the combustion of carbon-black slurry fuels, is reported. Theoretical work includes development of a one-dimensional model of a carbon slurry-fueled combustor in order to gain insight concerning effects of slurry properties and combustor operating conditions on combustor performance. New experiments were also undertaken in order to study effects of carbon-black composition and catalyst loading on agglomerate burning rates.
