Abstract : Ozone was stored on silica gel at -77 C and photolyzed at pressures from 0.1 torr to 20 torr using an excimer laser of wavelength 2480A. The wavelength of the emission which was deducted following photolysis is in agreement with previously reported hot band production of 02(1 delta) v=1. Quenching of the emission occurred in 0.5 to 2 milliseconds, which may have been due to resonant transfer from 02(1 delta) to I(2P1/2). The iodine in the system was residual from prior experiments. At pressures above 3 torr, ozone combustions and detonations occurred. Combustion produced an orange glow at 5860 + or - 50A, and detonation produced an audible shock wave which traveled at 4 + or - 2 meters per second. (Author)
