Abstract : A single mode cavity microwave sintering apparatus was designed, constructed and utilized to investigate sintering of a number of oxide ceramics. A temperature feedback system was designed and incorporated. Rapid passthrough sintering of Beta-alumina rods produced high densification rates and fine grain sizes. Mathematical modeling of the loaded cavity was commenced. Through this, it is possible to predict the specimen temperature from non-electrical, dielectric and geometric parameters.
