Abstract : Accelerating flow around an airfoil was visualized using smoke techniques. The flow started from rest and acceleration was kept constant for 5 seconds. Movies and single-frame photographs of the developing flow were taken for various angles of attack. The developing vortex patterns are interpreted as the elaborate initiation of an unsteady turbulent vortex street. (Author)
