Abstract : A new intense-beam free-electron laser experiment, operating as a short-pulse amplifier at 35 GHz, has demonstrated linear growth rates of 1.2 dB/cm, total gain of 50 dB, and coherent emission of 17 MW, corresponding to an experimental efficiency of greater than 3%. (Author)
