Abstract : The pyrazaboles H2B(mu-pz)2BRR' (pz = pyrazolyl = N2C3H3; R = R' = H; R = H, R' = pz; R = R'= pz) have been prepared by reaction of poly(pyrazol-l-yl)-borate ions with (CH3)3NBH2I. Also the preparation of the pyrazoboles Hpz'B(mu-pz')2BHpz' and pz'2B(mu-pz')2Bpz'2B(pz' = N2C3H-3,5-(CH3)2) is reported. The latter compound forms a thermally very stable and unusual monohydrate. Studies on the interaction of H2B(mu-pz)2BH2 with Hpz' suggest that, in contrast to electrophilic substitutions, the condensation to yield B-pyrazolylpyrazaboles occurs via opening of the initial central B2N4 ring of the pyrazabole.
