Abstract : This report describes the effect of turbulence of the atmospheric transmittance. The fluctuation of transmittance due to turbulence is incorporated into the Lowtran computer code in terms of two subroutines for plane wave sources and beam wave sources (including spherical wave sources), respectively. These two subroutines calculate the intensity and power scintillation index. The square root of these indices is then used to define the upper and lower bounds of transmittance deviation. The calculations are for point receivers as well as for finite aperture receivers which exhibit the aperture averaging effect. (Author)
