Abstract : Low velocity perforation problems, whether they be from a large scale missile impact or a very small fragment, are characterized by the introduction of the target. This report describes techniques which can be used to obtain estimates of the response of a thin plate to such an impact. Simple analytical approaches which are amenable to hand calculation, and also a structural model which is computationally very efficient are described. The solutions of theses techiques are compared with empirical data for a range of problems in order to present clearly the scope of applicability and the accuracy of the methods.
