Abstract : This paper describes an analytic model of the strategic bomber penetration mission. The model covers the strategic bomber mission from encountering the first elements of the Soviet's forward air defense network to the departure of the penetrator from the defended area after release of all weapons. The model is not intended to be exhaustive, but aggregates the penetrators and their mission so as to be useful in parametric analysis around a base run from APM. Due to the scope of the problem, the depth to which each stage of the problem is modeled is limited, but it is felt that the model developed possesses sufficient detail to adequately represent the penetrator mission for many purposes. Due to a lack of unclassified APM data, the model was not validated against the Advance Penetration Model, but was compared to two other penetration models and gave satisfactory results. All mathematical derivation for the model is contained in this paper. Also contained as appendices are the computer program developed and some sample results for a variety of possible scenarios.
