Abstract : Field Units have expressed a need for a device that could be simply attached to existing 105mm wooden tank ammunition pallets to accommodate top lifting. These devices are intended to be attached to select or key pallets for ease in the removal of the first few pallets from a prepositioned barge. The U.S. Army Defense Ammunition Center and School (USADACS) has been tested in accordance with Federal Test Method Standard 101B, Mechanical Handling Test, Method 5011, for 105mm or equivalent weight wooden ammunition pallets. The mechanical handling test performed is Section 6.3, Hoisting with Slings. The developed top-lifting frame successfully completed lifting a pallet of 3,000 pounds without deformation to the top-lifting device or the unitized load. This report delineates the procedures and results used to accomplish this test.
