Abstract : One of the main tasks of a command and control system is to present commanders with a basis for complete his tactical situation. A system that transforms a large volume of data into a comprehensive picture that can then be sued for situations assessment can aid the commander's decision making process. A system capable of performing this task has, until recently, required the dedication of vast amounts of computer resources. The report suggests a structure for a commander's display system that relies on recent advances in computational power in the form of a small, high-powered, dedicated graphics system. A prototype system is included as part of the research effort. Chapter II discusses the system level software structure for the project. Chapter III describes the methodology used for the display system, and discusses the selection of the contact symbols the system uses. Chapter IV discusses the user interface that was developed as part of the project. Chapter V is a system users guide, and Chapter VI provides the conclusions reached from the project and discusses opportunities for future work. Keywords: Theses; Computer graphics.
