Abstract : Bivariate piecewise polynomials in C sub rho of degree < or = k on some triangulation delta are shown to approximate to smooth functions to within delta sub k+1 if k > 3rho + 1. The argument makes essential use of the Bernstein-Bezier polynomial form. Keywords: multivariate; splines; degree of approximation.
