Abstract : This article examines the impact the F/A-18D multi-mission strike-fighter will have on Marine Corps Aviation during the 1990's and beyond. As an authentic force multiplier to the Marine Air-Ground Task Force commander, the F/A-18D Hornet will offer a single source of reliability and effectiveness in the anti-air warfare, offensive air support, aerial reconnaissance, and air command and control missions. Specific areas addressed include: 1) The expanded VMFA (Marine Fighter Attack Squadron) mission statement; 2) The F/A-18D Hornet's capabilities; 3) The Naval Flight Officer's role; and 4) Future VMFA restructure and supportability. The article concludes that the dual-cockpit Hornet is potentially the most versatile and unique tactical aircraft in the world with its multi-mission capabilities. Keywords: Jet fighters.
