Abstract : Database management systems are in wide use today for large automated information systems. Special-purpose computers, called database, machines are becoming commercially available. These computers are tailored to manipulate structured databases very efficiently. This study examines the suitability of one such machine for use in the use Air Force Personnel Data System (PDS). The study concludes that the machine, the Teradata DBC/1012, has the potential to improve the performance of the PDS, and should be considered for purchase.
