Abstract : The objective of the Air Force Remote Site Fuel Cell Development Program is to demonstrate logistically fueled fuel cell power plants at a remote site in Alaska in the early 1990s. During 1986, most of the Air Force's Alaskan Air Command's (AAC) Minimally Attended Radar (MAR) sites were converted from less efficiently designed and operated radar sites. A remotely accessed data acquisition system (DAS) was installed at the Sparrevohn MAR site to collect detailed site energy load data. The data was compared with the data collected from the Fort Yukon MAR site instrumented under the previous task order. Additional instrumentation was installed at Fort Yukon to characterize fully the diesel generators and the complete energy system. Problems were encountered with the existing fuel supply system and electrical instruments at Fort Yukon. The nonintrusive ultrasonic flow meters used at Sparrevohn proved too sensitive for an installation of this nature.
