Abstract : Vibration testing, particularly when performed in reliability test chambers, is very costly. Discussed in this report are the equations for designing a resonant-free platen for holding several test specimens for simultaneous testing. The unique feature of this platen is that it is an inverted pyramid that has been truncated to mate with a shaker head. This design is less likely to have resonance problems adn is significantly lighter than one of constant thickness. Specific points covered are: determination of the dimensions for a resonant-free platen, determination of the total weight of he platen, selection of a structurally damped material, and a computer program for performing all necessary calculations.
