Abstract : An expert system is a subspecialty of various artificial intelligence systems which has relevance for military applications. This thesis is concerned with examining the feasibility of using an expert systems approach for solving problems in a stochastic non-repetitive environment. To ascertain this feasibility, the expert system prototype supporting an air defense scenario was developed. Additionally, the prototype was evaluated to see if it was possible to interface sources external and independent of the expert system to provide the required inputs for processing and analysis.
