Abstract : Clam shells (Rangia) have been harvested from the lakes area since 1933 by means of hydraulic dredges. The shells are used primarily in construction activities, but have a variety of other uses as well. There has been considerable controversy over the environmental impacts of shell dredging. This DEIS has been prepared to assess these impacts. Numerous alternatives have been discussed and evaluated in the DEIS and two have been discussed in detail.
