Abstract : This report documents the results from a limited study of Electrical Parameters of Composite Materials. These efforts provided an evaluation of grounding and bonding test methods for metal, metal honeycomb, and advanced composite materials. A review of the electrical currents in the bonding and grounding paths on aircraft concluded that the lightning environment is the most severe followed by power system faults and on-board HF radio. It is recommended that the conventional 2.5 milliohm grounding and bonding requirement may be relaxed providing that special tests are conducted on the structure and subassemblies that enter into the grounding and bonding current paths. These tests are defined and recommendations made for advanced structures. A limited analysis of published test results concluded that good agreement may be possibly between predicted values and test results for complete structures, subassemblies, and components.
