Abstract : This report serves as an instructional aid in the analysis of the numerical techniques used in current computational fluid dynamic (CFD) Flow Solvers. A second-order, explicit predictor-corrector method, developed by MacCormack, is analyzed for stability, convergence , conservative property error, transportive property error, dispersion and phase error, and dissipation error, with respect to the viscous Burgers equation. The viscous Burgers equation is used as a nonlinear analog to the three-dimensional equations typically used in CFD analyses.
