Abstract : This essay explores the Problem of Jerusalem from a multi dimensional perspective. The areas covered consist of the early history of the City and the significance that each major denomination holds for the City, a discussion of the events leading up to the current crises including the U.S. position in regards to Jerusalem, the impact of UN Resolution 242 and the Senate Proposal to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a Harris Poll Survey on the complexities of the problem and possible recommended solutions to the Jerusalem problem by leading scholars. In view of the fact that Jerusalem cannot be discussed in isolation, considerable attention also was paid to the problems of the West Bank Palestinians, the PLO and Jordan as principal players in the region. The study recognizes that if any negotiated settlement on the West Bank is to be reached it ultimately will have to be decided between Israel and Jordan.
