Abstract : Absolute rate constants for the reaction of boron trihydride with CO, NO, C2H4 and upper limits for the reaction of BH3 with O2 and H2 are reported using a diode laser to probe BH3 disappearance. The reactions were studied at room temperature over a pressure range of 6 to 620 torr using N2 as a buffer gas. The rate constant for reaction of BH3 + CO was found to be in the intermediate pressure regime over the pressure range 10 to 620 torr of N2 with rate constants ranging from 1.5 to 47 x 10 to the - 13th cc. For BH3 + NO, the rate constant was found to approach the high pressure limit of 3.7 x 10 to the - 13th cc at pressures above approx. 200 torr of N2.
