Abstract : A review of published literature on the topic of physiological and performance limitations in saturation diving was conducted. Emphasis was directed to the deep diving experience of the United States, France, Great Britain and Norway between 1968 and 1983. Changes at depth in the following systems were reviewed: respiratory, cardiovascular, renal neurological, neuropsychological, and musculoskeletal, among others. The findings of this review indicated that impairments in neurological (HPNS) and neuropsychological functioning are at present the most significant determinants in prescribing the limits to which may descend in hyperbaric environments. Keywords: Performance(Human); Respiration; Gastrointestinal system.
