Abstract : This report summarizes two phases of the research project. The first phase dealt with the strength and behavior of steel fiber reinforced concrete subjected to biaxial compression-tension loadings. A new piece of direct tension loading apparatus was designed and assembled for this study. Load history effects on the degradation of the tensile strength were also investigated. The second dealt with the modeling of a buried culvert system, both numerically and in the geotechnical centrifuge. The centrifuge test results were compared to the numerical analytical results to provide a validation of the numerical algorithm in which constitutive models could be incorporated.
