Abstract : An investigation has been made into the coupling between mechanical effects and electromagnetic response for dielectric materials. Measurements of reflectivity on panels which were subject to tensile stresses were made over a broad range of microwave frequencies. Results indicated that the change in reflectivity exceeded that expected from geometric changes alone. These results are discussed within the context of a coupled mechanical-electromagnetic theory.
