Abstract : The focus of this research is to portray the Unified Command Plan as an evolving document and to propose innovative views on organizing U.S. forces to be more effectively and efficiently employed in support of U.S. national objectives. In Chapter II, a discussion of the evolution of the document will include a historical look at its origins. The development of the U.S. combatant command structure will be traced to the present. Chapter III will review criticisms of the existing organizational structure of the military as delineated in the UCP. The need to address not only these criticisms, but also future requirements, will be illustrated through new methodologies for organizing U.S. forces in Chapter IV. Chapter V will summarize and make some general conclusions about the processes for organizing U.S. forces for military action.
