Abstract : A two-dimensional experimental model investigation was conducted at a scale of 1:4, model:prototype, to determine and compare the wave transmission characteristics of various floating and bottom-fixed, rubber-tire breakwater concepts when placed over or on a mild bottom slope in shallow water and exposed to nonbreaking and breaking waves. Wave transmission characteristics of each concept as it corresponds to incident wave height, wave period, water depth, wave steepness, relative wave height, and relative depth are presented in both graphical and tabular form. The concepts are ranked from the best to worst relative to the wave protection they appear to provide in a shallow-water wave environment.
