Abstract : Ionograms recorded at Brighton, Colorado during the last sunspot maximum are still being studied. Samples show that the high quality and high temporal resolution of the data may yield new information about the dynamics of the ionosphere, especially in the F-region. F-region parameters from these data show that this part of the ionosphere is highly variable, with short periods of the order of the order of fractions of an hour. This report explains why the maximum usable frequency (MUF) (3000) appears to be the most appropriate indicator for F-region variations.
