Abstract : NCSU has specified design concepts for apparel material handling units for the purpose of reducing the labor content in the production of apparel or military sewn products. The design concepts were offered to existing equipment producers for bid on all or part of the equipment units. The modules specified include pickup and placement devices, orienting and alignment devices, equipment feeding devices and, finally, dispose or stacking devices. Wherever practical, existing commercially proven equipment is to be utilized or modified to satisfy systems requirements. Bids have been received and evaluated.
