Abstract : Measurements have been made of the ambient noise field between 25 and 300 Hz with vertical arrays at 32 N (124 W, 136 W, and 150 W). Substantial differences in the vertical distribution of noise have been measured, especially at the higher frequencies which can be interpreted in the context of attenuation by seawater sound absorption of coastal shipping. Due to substantial differences in weather at the stations, these measurements also provide an opportunity to observe the effect of weather on the vertical distribution of ambient noise.
