Abstract : A soft x-ray undulator is to be based at the vacuum-ultraviolet storage ring at the National Synchrotron Light Source, NSLS. The undulator will be used as a radiation source by a multi-institutional research team to perform the first spin-polarized photoemission experiments in the United States. Issues and challenges associated with advanced magnetic materials and the importance of undulator and free-electron laser capabilities will be highlighted in the presentation.
