Abstract : Military space doctrine development has received considerable attention on how the principles of war apply to space operations. Many have argued that the principles of mass and maneuver do not apply, or that they apply only a very narrow sense. This study examines what the principles of war could bring to the development of military space doctrine, and analyzes recent positions on the applicability of mass and maneuver. The report concludes that the present positions on mass and maneuver are based on too limited definition of both principles, were considered only for the space segment, and used to narrow a definition of the theater of operations for space warfare. The report provides a summary of the concepts which make up mass and maneuver, and a space force structure for use in applying the principles.
