Abstract : Effective and timely aircraft maintenance contributes to the overall war-fighting capability of combat units. There is, however, concern about the utility of peacetime maintenance practices in a war environment. Thus, a different and unorthodox approach--aircraft battle damage repair--emerged as a means of enhancing the unit's contribution to the war effort. Several studies support the value of a rapid and responsive repair capability. This paper uses results from these studies as a foundation for further analysis of battle repair concepts. The main thrust is war-fighting sustainability. Aircraft maintenance is a contributor to a unit's wartime staying power. Because maintenance covers such a broad spectrum, this paper is limited to the impact of unit-level maintenance in the combat environment. Examples used are not all inclusive, but they support and clarify the paper's theme. Keywords: Combat logistics support squadron; Air Force planning.
