Abstract : We present in this study in investigation into the use of texturing on the Silicon Graphics, Inc. IRIS for real-time computer animation. Using a tool designed specifically for the IRIS for defining texture patterns, two approaches to the design and implementation of software functions to fill objects with multi-color texture patterns are discussed. The first approach makes use of the IRIS patterning hardware to fill objects with multi-color texture patterns. Realizing the limitations of the first approach, the second approach uses an algorithm to partition a polygon defined in three space into a number of smaller polygons, with each polygon representing a texture point.
