Abstract : The Navy's nuclear propulsion program and the effectiveness of its advanced technological systems ashore and afloat are dependent on the acquisition and retention of officers with strong technical educations focused primarily on majors in mathematics, physics, chemistry, or engineering. To satisfy security and sea duty requirements, these officers must be male American citizens.
