Abstract : This thesis presents the development of a simple and comprehensive model of the divertor region of a fusion reactor which can be implemented on a PC to make it highly 'usable' and user friendly. The model includes the critical processes of; neutral recycling, impurity production and radiation, remote radiative cooling, neutral pumping, particle convection, ash effects, and the effects of divertor geometry and plate material. A set of fluid equations is solved for the plate temperature and density, and the throat temperature, using a fixed point iteration routine, and gauss-seidel updating. Neutral Particle modeling is accomplished with a simple model of a wedge-shaped section of plasma overlying the divertor plate and a simple slab attenuation model. The results of benchmarking the model developed in this thesis against four other divertor models was very successful and validates the approach taken.
