Abstract : High energy electron-, x-ray- or gamma-irradiation is known to result in degradation and/or crosslinking of polymers. Crosslinking usually dominates when the polymer is irradiated in the absence of oxygen while degradation is overwhelming when oxygen is present. The aim of this paper is to discuss how to measure the effects of high energy irradiation on the main mechanical and electric properties of polymers. (mjm)
