Abstract : The ionosphere changes the amplitude, phase, and frequency of radio waves, as well as slowing them down. This effect is called scintillation. We hope to find a method of predicting how much scintillation will occur at a given time and place. This would provide an alternative method of reading radio signals instead of the current expensive and complicated method of reading two radio signals of widely separated frequency transmitted simultaneously and figuring out how much the signal was changed by comparing the two signals. In order to be able to predict the scintillation patterns, people have performed many experiments. (jes)
