Abstract : This research analyzed and decomposed U. S. Space Command missions to determine the requirements of a Military Satellite Communications Decision Support System (MDSS). Alternative functional architectures for an MDSS were evaluated and a geographical user interface prototype was developed. MDSS system requirements were derived through the combined use of the method of Critical Success Factors and the Representations, Operations, Memory Aids, and Controls method. The sandwich' architecture was suggested as the most suitable functional architecture for MDSS development. The user interface prototype allowed potential MDSS users to gain an appreciation off the look and feel of a potential system so they could more precisely articulate their specific requirements to MDSS builders.
