Abstract : Poly(2-pentadecylaniline) was prepared at the air-aqueous acid interface using the Langmuir film balance technique. Compressional modulus of polymers prepared at different conditions were measured from surface-pressure-area isotherms. Mechanical properties of polymers prepared at different applied surface pressures were found to remain unchanged while those of polymers prepared at different temperatures changed significantly. A lower compressional modulus obtained at higher temperature can be related to its lower molecular weight. This results fit very well with our theoretical model. This study indicates that polymer with better mechanical properties can be obtained by carrying out the reaction at a lower temperature.
